TEACHING ASSISTANT POSITION 2016-2017

 
We are seeking a part-time assistant to help with our small preschool program.  PFCC’s location in Ames is ideal for early childhood movement and connection to nature.  PFCC began 18 years ago, and currently serves children ages 3 ½ through 6 years, in our beautiful cabin in the woods.  Our program is designed to consist of two adults and 14-16 children for four mornings (8:45am to 12pm), Monday through Thursday, from Labor Day through May.  Alongside the lead teacher, the assistant position helps provide care and guidance for the children during our operating hours, assists with daily setup and cleanup for the program, as well as helping with supplementary events and festivals we provide our close-knit community of families and alumni.
 
Work hours
Typically 8am to 1:30pm; 7:45 to 2:45 Tuesday and Thursday
Monday through Thursday (work days scheduled upon hire)
Occasional evenings and weekends for special / community events
 
Position Duration
September 1 – May 31, 2017
 
Compensation
This position is paid on a salary basis equivalent to $10.50 per hour

-supervising children during outdoor play on playground and on hikes in the woods
-supervising children during indoor interactions
-assisting children as they learn to make meals and clean up after themselves
-helping children during craft time
-cleaning duties around the cabin and daily food preparation
-ability to lift at least 50 pounds and to hike nearby rugged terrain
-able to be outdoors daily during all seasons (sun, rain, snow, cold down to 15 degrees Fahrenheit)
-good communication skills
